Coupe des Ameriques - Results-

Coupe des Ameriques 2008

Last weekend we had "The Coupe de Ameriques" Petanque Tournament at the Boca 2000 Courts in Boca Raton, FL.

We had some Players from Canada and a New York Team. The Dream Team of Roger Arpaia, Claude Lopez and John Roland took the Gold Medal after two Days of Playing without a loss; I spent some time talking to Claude Lopez. He is in from Canada on Vacation and assured me that he no longer plays much Petanque at home but you could not tell, he is still a Master at the Game. I just enjoy watching him play.
In Second Place with the Silver Medal were Alex Canesse, Ben Gautier and Super Mario. I can say that they make a Great Team together.
In third Place with the Bronze Medal were Guy Labourie, Raymond Maestri and GĂ©rard Reuther, the Team from The South Florida Petanque Club in Lakeworth, FL. , our neighbors to the North.
For more Pictures of The Tournament follow the Link below and Enjoy!

A Mini-Marseillaise in our backyard!!

The Canadians are mounting a credible effort to conduct a “Marseillaise” type tournament in Quebec City, up the St. Lawrence Seaway from Montreal.

It is even sponsored by Ricard, and get this, the purse is $15,000 plus all of the registration fees! Entry is $135 per team and there’s a consolante for the eliminated teams (you are sure to be in good company!). (Canadian dollars are quoted here) Pools will be used at first to make the cuts for the single eliminations that follow.

It is set for August 15-17, of this year and while it is open to all comers, Robert Pierre our International Events Coordinator for the FPUSA has petitioned the organizers for a set aside space for an official team from the U.S. that will be eligible for a $900 expense money grant from them for that team.

If you are interested either to form a team, (triplettes, men’s and women’s)or be one of its members, please contact Robert Pierre (rcpierresq@hotmail.com) or Ed Porto, FPUSA National Sport Director, (edporto@sbcglobal.net) for additional information. In a few days Robert will be out of touch for about a month, so please include both Ed and Robert on your email.

To be considered for the FPUSA team, please indicate your interest by June 30.

Getting acquainted with the new FPUSA Sport Committee

Our program of tournaments, our umpires, and interpretations of the "rules of the game", all come from our Sport Committee. We wouldn't be a petanque federation without these dedicated volunteers headed up by Ed Porto, our National Sport Director.

Working behind the scenes with frequent emails, and lengthy discussions, the committee members in cooperation and coordination with our clubs and their presidents, hammer out a full schedule of tournaments each year , and insure that just enough guidance is supplied to give us a fun season of competition that culminates in the World Championship Qualification Tournament and the selection of the team that represents the United States in the International Games, this year in Senegal, November 12-16.

Any player with questions or concerns about our tournaments, umpires, or the rules that we use is invited to contact a committee member.

Good luck on the courts!
